The quill is made of hard woods with 3 metal rings at the larger end, that end is 1 inch in diameter. The quill tapers to 3/8 inch wide at the other end. The quill has a hole in the middle and so is hollow from end to end and measures 8 3/4 inches long. The small end may or may not have a metal band on the tip. A quill is a wooden bobbin on which thread is wound before the weaving process. Quills were used in the weaving of fabric on the looms.
