Textile Mills and Their Machinery


Textile mills were very popular in the USA during the 19th century. During the Industrial Revolution the making of thread, yarn and cloth was almost completely mechanized. Here are some images of textile mills long since abandoned and some of the complex machinery used to make cloth.

Mill: Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill
Famous southern textile mill that produced cloth from raw cotton. In 1881 the cotton mill began a 12-building mill complex that employed thousands of workers. It was one of the largest textile mills in the southeast.
